14 Infamous Prisoners Rotting Away In America’s Toughest Prison
Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains lies the super-maximum security prison that’s home to the most dangerous criminals in this country. Although the United States has many maximum security prisons installed, the one and only “Supermax” is the notorious US Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado. Known as the ADX or the “Alcatraz of the Rockies”, the Supermax keeps inmates in solitary in confinement 23 hours out of the day in order to keep the public safe. According to reports, “this prison was built in response to the level of violence introduced by high risk inmates in other prisons. ADX prisoners are often transferred to the facility after having killed inmates or officers at their original locations.”
So just what exactly do you have to do to land yourself in a nightmarish place like this? Well from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, we bring you the stories of 14 infamous inmates who are lucky enough to call ADX their home.
1. Ramzi Yousef
Ramzi Yousef was charged being the mastermind behind the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center. On February 26, 1993, Yousef and six other men planted a truck bomb below the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The 1,336 pound urea nitrate-hydrogen gas bomb was intended to send the North Tower crashing into the South Tower. Although it failed to do so, the attack still killed 6 people and injured thousands. Yousef is currently serving a life sentence in ADX.
